The exhibition\u2014organized on the occasion of the eight hundredth anniversary of his death\u2014explores the profound and complex relationship of Francis of Assisi (1181\/2\u20131226) with clothing.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Connected to the world of luxury fabrics through his family\u2019s business, Francis breaks away from it with dramatic gestures, most notably by stripping completely in public to return all his garments to his father. Yet, at the same time, he reveals a remarkable attention and sensitivity to clothing\u2014one that only a true expert could possess.<\/p>\n

This is an original and fascinating journey that moves through the costumes of Franco Zeffirelli\u2019s masterpiece Brother Sun, Sister Moon, biographical testimonies, and artistic representations.<\/p>\n

In \u201cFrancis and the Perfect Garment\u201d, clothing becomes a key to understanding the soul. No longer a mere stage element, it becomes a symbol of ongoing transformation\u2014from the elegant and refined young man to the saint who chooses the coarse habit, a refuge and declaration of love for poverty. Every fabric, every fiber, every cut tells of the passage from a life dominated by appearance to one grounded in essence. <\/p>\n

The exhibition invites visitors to explore the meaning of clothing as a vehicle of identity and spiritual expression. Alongside the original costumes from the film, the displayed works create a dialogue between art, cinema, and history\u2014an interplay of fabric and light, of matter and spirit\u2014that conveys the complexity and subtlety of the Franciscan message. <\/p>\n

In an age that constantly renews and consumes fashion, Francis\u2019s gesture assumes an unexpectedly contemporary resonance. His humble and mindful garments evoke an ideal of balance, simplicity, and inner freedom\u2014perhaps the only truly \u201cperfect\u201d garment. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Graduated in Philosophy, he obtained a PhD in the field of education. He is a professor at USI \u2013 Universit\u00e0 della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Switzerland), Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society, where he serves as Director of the Institute of Digital Technologies for Communication and as Head of the UNESCO Chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites, established at USI in 2013. He is member of the WHES - World Heritage Experience Switzerland board and director of the <\/span>Master in Digital Fashion Communication<\/a><\/span>, offered in collaboration with Sorbonne University (Paris 1 Panth\u00e9on-Sorbonne), as well as the Master in International Tourism<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Alessandro Tosi<\/h4>

Scientific Director of the Museo della Grafica at Palazzo Lanfranchi<\/p>

He teaches and conducts research in the Department of Civilizations and Forms of Knowledge at the University of Pisa as a professor of Modern Art History. He served as President of the degree program in \"Cultural Heritage Sciences\" from 2003 to 2006, President of the joint council of the degree programs in \"Tourism Sciences\" and \"Design and Management of Mediterranean Tourism Systems\" from 2008 to 2014 and from 2021 to 2023. He is currently Vice President of the University of Pisa\u2019s Museum System. Since 2007, he has been the Scientific Director of the Museo della Grafica at Palazzo Lanfranchi (Municipality of Pisa, University of Pisa), which houses the collections of the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of the University of Pisa. <\/p>\n

President of the Pisa Theatre Foundation<\/p>

Diego Fiorini organizes exhibitions and events related to costume and contemporary art for major occasions such as the Venice Biennale, the Venice Film Festival, and in prestigious venues including the Baptistery in Pisa\u2019s Piazza dei Miracoli, the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi, the Cathedral of the Principality of Monaco, the Costume Gallery of Palazzo Pitti, and the Royal Palace of Milan.
He has worked on art catalogues\u2014overseeing the photographic campaigns and layout\u2014for renowned publishers such as FMR, Motta, and Pacini, collaborating with distinguished masters of photography including Aurelio Amendola and Mario Mulas.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
